ABOUT

ABOUT THE FAMILY

Meet Nathan, Winnie and their Mother and Father!

Nathan and Winnie had a very rough start in life but now are swimming on all four paws with the love and support of their "Pawrents" Rian and Melissa.

Nathan the Beach Cat

Born 25 April 2017

Nathan is a 3 year old domestic short hair. She was found abandoned in regional Queensland, in a box on the side of a busy highway. She was found no more than a few weeks old with 2 of her siblings and her mother.

Nathan's Rescue at RSPCA

Luckily, they were all bought into the local animal shelter (RSPCA Bundaberg), where they waited to be adopted. This is where we found the gorgeous little Nathan! She has become a permanent member of the family whom we both love and adore! She’s a very special little girl in that she’s incredibly smart and affectionate and loves being with her pawrents!

Nathan now

Her chill personality has enabled us to take her anywhere with us! She’s a peculiar little cat in that she does something very unusual compared to your regular domestic kitty – she loves a swim in the ocean! Her special skill has gained worldwide attention in which she has appeared in numerous magazine, newsletters, media websites and TV appearances. She is also a great advocate for black cats and animal welfare and has earned the position of being a RSPCA Furbassador!

Winston a.k.a Winnie

Born 5 May 2018

Winnie was found wandering alone as a kitten, only a few weeks old, around Elliot Heads Surf Lifesaving Club, in Queensland, Australia. She was bought into RSPCA Bundaberg and this is where we found and instantly fell in love with the kitten that is Winnie!

Winnie meets the Family

She instantly fit in perfectly with the family and Nathan loved her from the beginning. She’s a big chatter box unlike her sister, and is a very gentle, energetic little girl. We continued our beach antics with Winnie, who absolutely loved being outdoors! One day to our surprise, she wowed us by having a swim herself! Another beach cat, what are the odds?! Winnie’s little life is only just beginning.

The Pawrents

Rian & Melissa

Rian and Mel met while living in Melbourne, Australia, where Rian worked as a doctor and Mel, a nurse. In 2017 they made the move from the hustle and bustle of city Melbourne, to a regional town in Queensland for work commitments. Little did they know they were going to adopt and welcome 2 unique kittens into the their home! Both lovers of animals and supporting animal welfare, adoption was an easy choice when it came to finding their new fur babies. Nathan was adopted in July 2017, and Winnie came a year later in August 2018. They all now reside on the Gold Coast in Queensland, where they make regular trips to the beach along the Queensland and New South Wales coasts.

Through the unique online platform that is “Nathan the Beach Cat”, they are able raise funds that support animal welfare.
